Vodafone Egypt

Vodafone Egypt is a subsidiary of Vodafone Group plc of the UK, the world’s largest global telecommunications company by revenue. Vodafone Group was established as a successor to Racal Telecom, a company that emerged from Racal Electronics plc, the largest maker of military radio technology in the UK. Today, Vodafone Group plc operates in over 30 countries and has partner networks in over 40 additional countries with a total of around 341 million subscribers. It owns 45% of Verizon Wireless, the largest telecommunications company in the US. The name Vodafone comes from voice data fone.

Nile Engineering for Projects was founded to work in the telecommunication activities, and specifically in the wireless telecommunication (mobile) business in Egypt. In 1996, when wireless telecommunications was first launched in Egypt, the company realized the high potential in such business seeing the very low penetration of fixed lines standing at around 5 millions at the time. Following an auction for the second license, Vodafone became the successful company to win the second wireless telecommunication license under the brand name Click GSM. The Nile Engineering Group saw the long term potential of Vodafone being the largest mobile operator in the world and so proceeded to approach the company to be its exclusive agent in the Egyptian market. In 1998, before the launch of Vodafone services in Egypt, Nile Engineering for Projects became the first company to sign an exclusive agency agreement with Vodafone and was one of the pioneers in the launch of Vodafone’s business in December of 1998. Ever since then, Nile Engineering has been Vodafone's exclusive agent, a cooperation that has developed to be a real partnership and successful venture.
